lack of appetite

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi, my 6 year old has just started with Dexedrine slow release 20mg.The past 2 days he has only had breakfast and does not even want that.On Ritalin he use to be very hungry after 4pm and would eat lots.Is the total
lack of appetite normal? The slow release Ritalin gave him extreme nervous
ticks, so now we are trying this.He is also awake until after 11pm.How do
parents cope with this.Would love to hear from someone who has been through the process of finding the right meds and dosis.

Lack of appetite is a common occurance with people on Dexedrine. My 17 year old son was on 10 mg of the Dexedrine spansules for about 3 years with much success. As he got bigger it wasn’t as effective so when it got time to change his meds the Dr. didn’t try 20 mg of dexedrine, we tried Straterra, that was a major bust, then we tried Adderall and he did much better. We are now on 15 mg of Adderall and he is doing great.

I would definitely ask the Dr. about cutting back on the dexedrine. That seems like a lot especially at such a young age but again I am not a Doctor. Also Melatonin is a natural herb that some parents have tried to give kids when they are having problems sleeping.
