I am in Ca and they are required to provide services for children who “qualify.” Of ocurse trying to get them say that your child qualifies is a whole ‘nother story. And like Sue said, you have to decide if their services are really worthwile anyway. In our case the work, the fight, the hassle was just waaaaay too exhausting and I found that my time would be much better spent researching and teaching my dd myself.

: entitled to speech and OT services?Some states, every child is “entitled” to all kinds of services… but they have to go to public school. Period. Private school or homeschool — you’re out of the loop. Of course, some of the “services” provided by the system aren’t really worth much — they’re services in name only. (At the first faculty meeting at a school where I taught, we were informed that the first and foremost reason there was special ed there was that it was required by law. It was painfully and extremely true. The idea that kids would benefit from services was ‘way down on the list.)Other states are very different, and it probably varies by county/district too. You *do* want to track down the laws yourself, since people will tell you what they’ve been told to tell you.Are you in Maryland? (Unfortunately, one of the “out of the schools, out of the loop” states, if I remember right.)
