Hello all..
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Susan Barton’s reading program? I received the free overview video in the mail, and it seems like a good program, but it’s expensive.
thanks

Re: Susan Barton's reading program
Hi ruthann,
I am wondering if you ever invested in Spelling Power? Have to admit I have now abandoned it. Just wanted to rescind my recommendation of it for dyslexics — if it’s not too late!
If you haven’t yet seen it, I highly recommend the book “Multisensory Teaching of Basic Language Skills”, ed by Judith Birsch. I got it through inter-library loan. The spelling approach in this book is the one that has been working for my daughter — including carrying over into her daily writing. Hallelujah! I will soon run out of the basic rules covered in this book, though, so am still looking at a variety of spelling programs.

hi Mary..
Yes I DID invest in Spelling Power and sold it pretty quickly on ebay. My son really balked at it. I just heard of that book by Judith Birsch somewhere else. I’ll have to check it out..Thanks

Re: Spelling Power fiasco
Sorry about that, ruthann. I had read many positive posts about Spelling Power, and at first it did seem to be working for us. My daughter actually liked it! I found it painfully slow, however, and it did not transfer into her writing.
I think Susan on the Parenting bb here posted about the Birsh book also. It’s been very helpful to us, especially for spelling.
Mary
I’ve heard it’s good, but it *is* expensive. It’s based on Orton-Gillingham, as are many other good programs.
Did you ever try Phono-Graphix (Reading Reflex)?
