Does anyone know what the difference will be for a student who is given a nonstandard administration of a standardized test versus a standardized administration? Other than the accomodations for the test, will the administration affect the student, say, when he or she must take the graduation tests in high school? Will it also determine what type of diploma the student will be seeking? I am not familiar with the affects of these types of administration and I want to make sure that I am giving my parents correct information. Thanks!

Re: standard v.nonstandard administration of tests
Susan’s got one point — here’s the other side. If you *don’t8 have those accommodations for one test, it’s harder to get permission to have them later because, after all, there’s no precedent.
If the test you’re looking at now is not a grad. requirement then it should have no impact on the diploma. If you jump thru all the hoops to get accmomodations on the SATS — go for it. I would take the tests one test at a time.
Students who receive accommodations (e.g. extended time, oral reading of questions), or non-standard administration of a standardized test, could have problems later if the accommodations are removed. You might ask if this administration is allowed for the exit exam. I would think it would be so…but one never knows for sure. I do not believe it impacts diploma type, but always ask within your state system to be sure.
