Dr. Mel Levine’s KEEPING A HEAD IN SCHOOL was a good book for my son, who is now in college and doing great. Dr. Levine makes the point to students that some people are really good at having lots of friends, and some people are good at having a few GOOD friends. I think this is such a nice way to tell children that they do not have to measure themselves against the most popular person in school. Having a couple good friends is OK too, and a goal that can be within reach. Check out www.allkindsofminds.org if you want to read more from Dr. Levine. He is a child psychiatrist and world-class expert (on learning) at UNC Chapel Hill. JJ
Check out the information on Rick Lavoie’s video: “Last One Picked, First One Picked On” on LDOnline (LD store). I haven’t seen the parent version, but found the teacher version helpful.
