Hi, my child (tested and not on spectrum) 7years old, moves her fingers when she is excited and sometimes she slowly rocks. It hasn’t been noticed by her peers as of yet, at least not mentioned but her teachers notice it. I have talked to everyone I can think of over the years on how to get her to stop this. I know this is a behavior that is going to be ridiculed if we don’t get it under control. She is a very sweet girl, however, her social skills are not great. We have had her in various groups outside of school over the years and frankly, I haven’t seen any great progress. Now she is in one at the school, that I still don’t hold much store in. Does anyone have advice for me on both issues. Thank you. K Please e-mail me at [email protected]
Re: help with "finger" movements and also social s
This could be a indication she has some type of sensory dysfunction. I would do a search of sensory dysfunction—I think it is called something else but cant remember—maybe someone else here can.
I’d work on the social skills, which are generally far more noticeable and will help her be accepted … and are more under conscious control than those kinds of movements. Sometimes a person can channel the energy to a different motion, though.
