State Assessments

Texas requires candidates for Teacher Certification to pass an “ExCET” test. I have a friend who has a master’s degree in art from a major university. He was diagnosed as severely dyslexic in his childhood (and, of course, he still is.) He has taught art at the high school level successfully for the past 3 years. He has failed the ExCET test (with alternative asssessment, i.e. “extra time”) four times. He has been told that if he fails to pass the test, he will lose his job. Is anyone aware of exceptions, options, assistance for this fine young teacher.

: I don’t know if they could help him but I think they’d like to if they could. He could go to www.fairtest.com. (it may be www.fairtest.org) The organization that owns that website is very much opposed to the use of standardized testing. If anyone would know his rights, they would.Good luck.Texas requires candidates for Teacher Certification to pass an
