Our daughter has been admitted to Landmark College, but we are feeling rather intimidated by the cost of the school. We’ve heard that other parents have taken the cost of Landmark as a medical deduction on their taxes. I’m interested to hear if other parents have doen so, and what documentation you have needed. Thanks.
Re: Tax Deductions for tuition at Landmark College
Our daughter is looking at similar programs. We have been told the NYIT VIP program which she has been accepted to is also tax deductable as a medical expense. I have a call into our accountant for information on whther it is a real deduction. Please let me know of any concrete information on the subject.Sally wrote:

Read IRS Publications 907 and 502
IRS Publication 907 (Tax Highlights for Persons with Disabilities)may be of general interest and publication 502 (Medical and Dental Expenses) spells out the specifics on medical deductions for special education. All Internal Revenue Service publications are available online at the following website: http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/forms_pubs/formpub.html
It is good to consult with an accountant, if you can find an accountant who has experience with this particular issue. If you read the requirements carefully and it seems to meet the situation of your child please also note that you should get a letter from a physician (as stated in the IRS guidelines) to have on file in case you are audited by the IRS.
Re: Tax Deductions for tuition at Landmark College
The Landmark College bulletin indicates that its expenses have been approved as medical expenses by the IRS and may be eligible to be deducted on your income tax return (as I understand it that means that you may deduct your medical expenses to the extent that they exceed 7.5% of adjusted gross income). So whether you can deduct the Landmark fees depends on your adjusted gross income and other medical expenses.
Re: Tax Deductions for tuition at Landmark College
Tax Deductions are also available as educational expenses- It varies by state but worth a look.
I would also be interested. I am a high school junior with a learning disibility and ADD and am looking at that school. But the money is the big thing !! that my parents and even my Special servies case manager at my High school are saying I should just go to community college. My dad went to the one I would go to Brookdale CC. Most other colleges are out of the question since I would never be able to do good on SAT since I have not even has that high level a math at all.
