I hope someone can help me get some info. A friend’s child is interested in a college type/dorm living progam which teaches independent living skills. This would be a program NOT for someone who would take typical college classes with support for LD.
I know such a program exists at National University in Evanston, Illinois and New York Institute of Technology in Islip, New York. These programs work at living on a budget, buying groceries, going to part time jobs by public transportation.
Programs such as Landmark College which help kids with severe LD would be too demanding and inappropriate.
If anyone knows of other programs I would appreciate this info very much. Thanks.

The College Living Experience in Florida is an excellent program, also pricey.

Lynn University in Old Forge, NY is where I am going to look for my son. Contact Kelly Faduski. They supposedly have a great program for just this type of student.

Take a peek at what George Mason University in VA is doing. NOt sure if there is dorm avaialablity.

Threshold Program at Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass.
The Horizons School (formerly part of University of Alabama@Birmingham).
The Berkshire Center in Lee, Massachusetts.
Lynn University, Old Forge, New York.
Maplebrook School in Amenia, New York and Riverview School in East Sandwich, Mass also offer programs for students after high school.
These are all programs which focus on independent living skills and all have the goal of developing independent adults who will ultimately be functional, contributing members of society. The focus in all programs is on vocational training, money management, socialization, self advocacy, etc. These programs are for young adults who would never be able to function in a traditional college environment. The drawback is that all of them are pricey.
