Support Group

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I would like to start a support group for Grandparents and Grandkids. It has become very common for this new “parenting” all over the United States…there are literally millions of us raising our grandchildren.
The grandchildren and grandparents can become isolated from friends and siblings because of the age difference. I would like to have a connection with this population not only for interaction but for information exchanges.
Any information on how to begin this task? I do know how to get my information out to the grandparents…I’m not sure about the rest. Especially a beginning presentation for a first meeting. How many is needed to help carry out the group meeting? I am willing to do it all but not sure if there is enough of me or time.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Your Group is already started, you just need to accept members. My mother is the Grandparent of my son, I am the one with the LD and I know she does not understand. My mothr is 65 and refuses to accept there is anything other than her daughter is Lazy, always late, disorganized, and in trouble which is trueto a point. I was diagnosed in 1988 from a MVA the a second severe closed head injury in a 1992 MVA, I did not help I have pretty much denied the existence of any deficits until now, my Dementia is progressing and I do not know why I am telling you this . Well good luck Grandma I wish you all the best, at least you understand that LD exist and maybe you can educate or support other Grandparents with children or grandchild who suffer from LD. Try a website, post flyers with your email or phone number in your local township, libray, hospital, PTA meetings would be a good area for children/parents with LD or ADD to be located, try the school board sometimes they’ll get involved. Good Luck, Peace. LISA
