A quick questionq

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

As I’ve posted before I have a daughter that will very soon be eight. I have a question and am not real sure on which form to post it. so here goes. My daughter “Dea” is very imature for her age and is into the toys and cartoons most children her age have long outgrown examp;es- Barney-Dora-Blues Clue’s. What can I get her that will not get her teased by the classmates that have agreed to come to her birthday party. Mabe I’m worring too much but last year she loved the gift we got her until the kids started teasing her about how babish they were. I would like to get her one really good gift to give her at the party that won’t get her teased. Then at home in private give her the stuff I know she will love. At the same time I want her to also like what she gets at her birthday party any ideals would be appresiated.

I’m impressed with your concern for both what your daughter loves, even if below age expectancy, and for her social needs. What comes to mind is that some gifts that might promote socialization might be helpful to her. For example, are there videos or video games that she might like that other children at the party would want to come over to watch or play with with her? What about a game such as Chutes and Ladders? What about something like a trampouline? What about art materials (crayons, paints, paper, coloring books) or a musical toy such as karaoke machine? What about CDs of popular children’s songs?

Thankyou for the advice. I love the idea about the karaoke machine. She loves music of all kinds, and I think all children would like to have something like that.

Maxine,

I recently had a small 7th birthday party for my little girl. She only invited a few friends so it ended up being a party of 5. All the girls at the party know what my girl is like and they are OK with that. I would suggest that you keep things simple and not too overwhelming…you don’t want too much stimulation and stress!!! I know what you mean about your child not being interested in the same things as her peers!!! My daughter wanted a cake that was adorned with a Large Mouth Bass! I got her the cake and thankfully it was not an issue at her party! She was so excited about it! I bought her “Doh Doh Island” (Play-Doh) as a present and she and her friends had a blast playing that during the party. That was the only gift she got from us during the party (we gave her a few others on her actual brithday a few days earlier) but, that was fine because she got a bunch of gifts from her friends. I also set up a small tent in the living room and they had fun playing in that and watching a 101 Dalmatians video. One other thing we did was play a bowling game…bowling for bunnies…They had fun with that, too. Everyone got a Goody Bag with pretty cool items so the girls were all happy when they left the party. I didn’t have them play any games for prizes so there were no hurt feelings or tantrums. I just let the kids “play”…I didn’t organize too much…and the party was fun and stress free for all the girls…and not too stressful for me, either.

Don’t know if this helps, but I do know exactly how it feels to have a little girl that is not quite in sync with the rest of the girls her age!

Best Wishes!

well the bithday has probably came and wint but I have an idea for any fucher little girl partys, Dress up partys are a hug secses in my family. Not costum partys but just an old trunck full of trechers. We like to have a little tea party with Oreo dirt cups w/ gummy worms ( seams all litlle kids like a little gross out fackter) We asked the invited people, adolts also to where there finest dressup atier( hats and bowas incureged) and to bring any thing they would like to shear. We had all kindes of big goddy plastick beads and rings for party favers and tearas for prizes. But I dont thing I would do the fairy wands agen ops.
The dressup close she got for her birthday were a grate victery and realy brought her out of her shell at the party. You know Barbie can fish and play in the dirt too, mien did lol. Well good luck, I just wanted to shar the dress up thing, It was such a good idea Oh and dressup the mom was a fun game that we made up
