I'm sped teacher in exile

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi, my name is john and i’m new to this board. I’ve been teaching for 18 yrs full time and 5 more as sub. BUT i’m hard core unemployable, blacklisted, and exiled to Taejeon, South Korea.

Why? Mainly, my last bosses were lesbians who hate all men and have based their lives on trying to destroy male teachers’ careers. I’ve complained to the President, EEOC, OCR, state governor, state dept ed, press, state legislators, and US Senator but so far to no avail.

I’m almost certified in NM, passed the EXCET exam in Texas to teach autistics, but can’t get a job because of the references from my last bosses. They gave me a negative on all but one category based on nothing.

BTW, i’m also ld: ADD, OCD, AS.

I hope i can be of some service to some of you on the board.

You hope you could be of SERVICE to some of us? These last two messages, especially the first, are appalingly homophobic. You people are certified teachers? As a straight person, I am personally offended. YOU should be reported to the state for your hostile, blaming words.

Hi teacher I may have an apple for you. Have you ever thought about moving to the great white north Canada. We up here are always looking for good people if your interested in more detail get in touch , I can look around their are many organizations looking for talented persons especially men to work teaching Young offeneders,Dual Diaganoised individuals and our government in Ontario is putting Billions into Special Education. We at the local L.D. chapters are somewhat hopeful as well to maybe see some postive changes to the support that those with L.D. will be receiving as our premier (governor ) had a son that was L.D. so he actually understands what the heck were are dealing with or at least has some seriuos empathy.

I worked for a school district a number of years ago which was a very unpleasant place to work, because of the administration.I had a run-in with one of them, because I refused to back him up in a lie. It was my first job after being home with my kids for a number of years, so I couldn’t just quit. When I decided to move on at the end of the year and used someone from there as a reference, I had trouble finding work.I’m sure I was black-listed.
I suggest first that you make sure that you remove references from your work which may not be favorable to you, if possible. If not, and the question comes up, do not complain or denigrate your former employers. Be general in your comments (Ex: differences in philosophy) and say something about you were looking for a change to challenge you in new ways and improve your skills, etc. Don’t lie, but don’t volunteer any information that you don’t have to.And never, ever, even hint that there were problems at your previous job when you do get hired. The world is a small place and you never know whose path you may cross again or how your previous work experience could be misinterpreted and used against you.
I now work for a wonderful district with great teachers and I’m so much happier. It was actually a blessing that I went through what I did, because I’m making more money, working with better professionals, and I’ve learned how to deal with “barracudas”. And yes, I still run into the previous administrator at annual inter-district meetings! He can barely be civil to me, but I always treat him with respect and kindness. It drives him crazy and my administrators (who don’t like him) praise me later for my professionalism in dealing fairly with him. I’m no longer angry and bitter about him either.Hope things work out well for you!

Get your head out of the sand. GOod old girls, both straight and gay have been known to ruin people’s careers. Just like good old boys. Not just in school systems–take a glimpse at the SOcial Services Field and that Cesspool known as corporate America. DOn’t be so naiive!
