someone--medical requirements for enlistment

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi someone,
I looked up the medical requirements for recruits online last night. There are actually many conditions that keep folks from enlisting, the recruiters have a pre screening questionaire as well as the military doc that does the health assessment. What I found relevant to my son is the medicine and the IEP (a special ed document), these two factors will probably keep him out unless I can get him to the point where he doesn’t need either by the end of 10th grade.

They don’t say specifically adhd meds, they state any condition that requires daily or routine intermittent medicine to function. This includes diabetes and asthma as well, any heart problem stuff like that.

There was a part that mentioned a waiver but it has to be approved by the doc doing the assessment.

Also you have to make certain scores on the asvab test with no accommodations and in a certain amount of time. The scores differed by service.

I can’t find the site I was on but you could plug in something like what I titled this message or something like it and you should be able to get something to come up on your browser.

Hope this helps.
Amy

So it specifically stated 10th grade rather than the 12 years of age we have so often heard? 10th grade definitely is much more realistic as the hyperactivity component of ADHD decreases with age. That gives your chidren and my son a much better chance at this. I will plug that info into my browser and see what pops up. Thanks.

10 grade? that makez more sense than 12 yrs. old. I dont take any medication for my learning disability and I dont have other medical conditions.

Did you catch the Navy’s qualifying scores? I am pretty OK in school except for math.
