What do you do when your child’s teacher has burn out and as a parent it is very obvious?

What do we do when…. many things or any one thing in our child’s teacher are not right? For the most part, there’s little to do about these situations. We can switch doctors fairly easily if we become unhappy with our doctor but switching teachers and schools is another matter entirely.

In a better world, there’d be a solution to this problem but in the one we live in, there might not be. Teacher burn out is a very real thing and as a teacher I’ve felt it myself at times. Will this teacher allow parent volunteers? If she/he would, perhaps you could and other parents could volunteer - one every morning - to help out and relieve the feeling of being all alone that comes with burn out. It would also add some positive energy to the room.

If nothing else, try to do from afar. I found my own son’s burned-out teacher perked up a little bit when I donated a few boxes of badly needed tissues for classroom use in the winter months. Is the teacher bitter and burned out or just burned out? If she/he isn’t bitter, write a pleasant note and offer to volunteer for any job she/he might need doing. Buy a few books even used ones for the classroom library. Small things can sometimes help to lift the mood for teacher and student alike in the ‘burned-out classroom’.

Good luck.
