I’m in central NY. People are leaving here in droves but services for the disabled grow and grow and grow and still nobody gets any help. Our VR agency is called VESID. They are horrible. There are other agencies that duplicate VESID’s service or lack there of. One is called RCIL. What’s interesting about RCIL is out of hundreds of employees no able bodied heterosexual males work work there except for the guy that runs it. He’s the O.R.I.T.H.H. (only rooster in the hen house) State VR is a scam. Ask to see their finances. How many who apply for services actually get help? State VR is federally funded but has no federal oversight. It’s a disgrace. These people should be in jail.

I bet you can be quite a pain in the butt. Your rapier wit and caustic comments are intriguing. You’ve hit the nail on the head when it comes to VR. It’s a disgrace!

I saw a dog eating it’s own droppings and it thought to myself, if I could get my dog to do that I’d only have to feed him once. Perhaps if I could get him to take a bite out of a VR counselor my pooch would get the idea. Maybe I should take him for a walk by our state office building. Grrrrrrr

I worked in Canada as a vocational counsellor but it sounds like the systems are different. I’m not saying it is perfect but it does sound like an improvement, for one thing the money is divided among service providers who have to justify their funding. At the agency I worked for we had to account for every 6 minutes of our day with time log stats and isn’t as hard as it sounds when you are busy.

Money is also alotted to agencies with different approaches and clientelle bases (I.e. assistive edvices, computer training, on the job training, work experiences, etc). Monthly assessments are done on the # of clients who found employment, are maintaining employment or are in the active job search. Clients direct their service with assistance from a staff member. We prepared people prior to searching for work through WHMIS training, doing skills assessments, work site visits and on the job training with a job coach which remained usually to some degree even if every 3 months.

One thing you want to look into is fee for service. I don’t know if you had experience with it before or not. How it works to my understanding is an individual/agency puts a hourly fee onto the service they provide (I.e.$60/hr for job coaching which is dispersed to cover all staff such as secretaries, voc counsellors, rental of the building, etc). A client agrees to the service and government, insurance company, etc is billed for the time used. The reason why I mention this is that it is an American concept that is being adopted in Canada. You sound like someone who wants to make a difference and it could be an option, I don’t know.

Pretty soon I’m gonna be finding myself singing Oh Canada at the next hockey game I go to. The longer I live the more corrupt and stupid american government agencies become. New York State is the Caddilac of corruption. Vesid is just the tip of the iceberg. We have high taxes and low wages and a high cost of living. Instead of calling NY the empire state they should callit the vampire state because they’re bleeding us dry. It’s slogan should be, Hooray for me and screw you. Welcome to NY the middle finger capital of the world.

Sounds like common sense up there in the great white north. VESID’s goal in dealing with clients is to see what they can do tomake their lives worse. I truly believe VESID is evil.

I agree Voc Rehab does sux. My daughter going to college got accepted last august still no meeting with voc rehab. Just got a call today in thte middle of cleanning they want to meet her next week. Damm people always waiting.

We need to complain loudly, often and to the right people about the scandalous behavior of vocational rehab agencies.
