Folks:
By now many of you have heard that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled school voucher monies are legal in the way Cleveland OH is utilizing them. I only hope this means that kids with LD may also apply to attend a diffrent public school, private LD school etc.. The teachers union and many in the school front office bueraucracy may not be happy about this, but then again some of those people never really worked a day in their lives. Perhaps, maybe the schools will be more responsive to teir customers or close those folks will be on the food stamp line. A school where the majority of kids are LD will be better in my point of view for the LD student. He will not face the amount of discrimination or isolation unless by his choice, that is faced in the public schools. It is good for the LD people to be the majority in some of these schools, so people can see what it feels like to go 24/7 with LD. It is a harsh reality, but this descision is a groundbreaker.

I am glad for your kids success. This is just recognizing human nature, it does not change many times. The kids are not happy with inclusion sometimes because the LD kid sees the sucesses of the non-LD kids and realizes they are different. This is a tragedy ! The public schools do nothing about this problem and continue to do nothing about helping LD kids. The politicians and we know who they are, claim lets not give up on public education however, their own kids do not attend public schools in many cases. This is hypocrisy and a shame ! I say make them send their kids to the public schools and see the baloney that goes on there. The kids won’t last a month there. I do wish your kids luck in their education. It is too late for some of us, but this voucher ruling will help many needy LD kids in this very competitive society.

I am of the exact same opinion about my children and the public school we have them attending. So far my attempts to find financial aid for them to attend a private LD school in our area have been unsuccessful. The tuition is WWWWAAAYYYYYY more than we can afford, even for one child, let alone two. I know you are in a different state, but could you instruct me as to how I could begin the process of applying for vochures for my children? Who do you call or write, or where do you get the application?
My 5 year old son is absolutely miserable and yesterday was down right abused by his fellow classmates and then his teacher when she punished him for reacting when he was taunted with his own lunchbox by another child! She was not punished, he was! It is bad enough that these kids have to deal with their learning problems, but then they have to take judgments, attitudes, and abuse at the hand of the very people who are supposed to be educating them??? I have been sitting on the verge of homeschooling for almost a year with my daughter, and now, I am seriously in need of change for the little guy too!!! I am the parent of two boys who are LD,and participating in a state voucher.
This will be their third year at a private school specificly designed for gifted lders. Very small only 22 kids. They absolutely love it,and it has undoubtedly the very best thing we ever did. The public school system in our area was and still is the most corrupt as you will ever find,and they are out there. But I have resigned myself to the fact that the schools had absolutely no idea how to educate my children,none,zippo,as it was for me too many years ago to mention. Not that they didn’t care,they weren’t prepared. The school they are now at was like this massive breath of fresh air. Having taught the unteachable for many years,nothing is a big deal,expectations are still high,it is expected that once graduated the student will go on to higher education. The ironic part to me in this journey is the whole concept of inclusion and how ever so important it is suppose to be to put the kid along side other kids who are not disabled. Here everyone is LD,everyone knows everyone else is,everyone has a problem in some subject,but NOONE cares. Now to me,this is the most least restrictive enviroment there could be,it is called acceptance.
