The ADA speaks of this abstract concept called reasonable accomodation. What reasonable accommodation really does is shift the responsibility of helping the disabled from the government and to business. Reasonable accomodation absolves the government of it’s responsbilty to it’s less fortunate citizens and give the scum of the Earth/lawyers a field day filing frivolous lawsuits against business.
I am not some right winger pro big business type. I just don’t think the majority of providing vocational solutions should be forced onto business. They do not have the expertise and they shold not be expected to have the expertise.
With all this said, anyone who thwarts the efforts of a disabled person seeking gainful employment should be dealt with harshly. Be is a crooked VR counselor or an apethetic educator taking delight in not granting or honoring an IEP these people need to be met with our righteous indignation at least.
If they refuse to play by the rules why should we? FIGHT DIRTY!!!!

(1) stop hiding ower disabilities. (no spell cheks ext.) people cant if conseve it if they cant see it.
(2) next time someone makes a crack about your spelling or how you bouns your foot (or what ever) call them on it.Ask if they bully blind people too.Let them know it herts.Ofere to let them rewright it if it makes them happy.Or ofere to byem a tripel cap ext suger (what evere ) Your all smart thinck of somthing.
(3) Start writing every one you can thick of ,Opra ,Dr. Phil, Good morning america,congres men who evere you can thinck of ; tell your story.Make it real by sending rugh draf and the time it toke to wright.The reason people dont take it seareas is they dont know how sereas it realy is.
(4)we need to start self help groop for us run by us!!!! You might start with a small locel groop that meats at the lookel greasy spoon onens a week.Have a discushon topice,reed the minets the hole nine yards.You know some wear you can not only expres your self but some where to help the yuth as well as discover and work on your stranths.(reaserch books on proper edecat of citasenship) tell you how to run a meating and how to start it.

Toni, You got the right idea especially a group that is run by “us”. It is important that the group not be hyjacked. I also think two type of seperate groups are needed. One that is militant and one that is for support and advocacy.

VR sucks for everybody not just LD or TBI.
How would a VR counselor and his/her boss feel if a bunch of advocates showed up in force and intimidated that counselor and that counselor’s boss. I think they would wise up and start doing their job. State worker is an oxymoron but given the proper motivation will make them do their jobs.
Things suck for us because they are allowed to. Instead of fighting these stupid battle that we will always lose, we need to fight battles we can win but to winwe need proper stragedies.
Attitude like yours Toni is the way to go. I too believe in a take no prisoners approach.

The only problom I can see with going derectly to the VR is that it is like yelling at the whatrass because there out of dcaf.She dosent have control of the ordering her maneger is but that person can only do what they can with what the onere will alowe them to do.I dont thinck a sitt in would be a bade idea. It would get soom atinchon and the people working may get an idea of how displesed we are with there servace and teatment of people.I still thinck we need a little empathe for the the people at the window, they get the brunt. My sugeston is to make them your freands get an in. Fined out from your new freand how you might talk to about you discoragment,then ask that person owm you might talk to and so on. When you have exosted all avanuse, get to gether with your new freand at the VR and make a protest.It needs to be in a place that would realy afect every one.If you are goin to this mesher dont for get to call the news stashons
try getting an awernes bouth going at the lowkel far.The 4-H extenchon ofice in your area can set you up with some valenters for some extra suport.

I have been at this a long time and I can tell you “going through channels” is the same as jumping through their hoops like a trained seal. They don’t help anyone any way so why not give them shite at every level. Make their work unpleasant. Intimidate them. VR are no different than gansters. They are a failure because they are designed to fail. The more they fail the more money they get they actually get rewarded monetarily for failure. So essentially their job is to fail.
If you are playing chess sometimes you have to kill of all the other peices in order to checkmate the king.
If someone is not for us than they are against us. If someone is not our friend then they are our enemy. I know this sounds simplistic and paranoid but I think this may be words to live by when dealing with those who’s job it is to pretend to help people.
I have nothing but contempt for VR. At this point I don’t want their help. All I want is their demise and to see as many of them doing hard time in a federal pen.

I must admeat that I havent delt with the VR. You know more about them than I. I have the habet of givving people the benafet of the dout. If the people at the front lines are patraning and beletaling, I holl hartaly agre;Givvem hell.

Smothering in kindness and then laying a guilt trip only works on people who have a conscience.
