HELP - Adult Business Classes

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi there. I am 22 years old. I recently graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, IA. They have an excellant LD program there, where I was enrolled all 4 years there. I am now working and my superior requested I take a basic MS Excel class/1-day workshop. My problem is, all the places I have called have large class sizes (50-100 people). A class of this size would never work for me, especially a computer class, my boss knows this and has no problem with my limitations. I have considered an on-line class, but again, if I get lost, or do not understand something there will be no instructor for me to stop and ask to slow down or ask a question. My advisor from the LD Dept. at Loras said that I could get a upperclassman to spend a day and tutor me, but they have no real business experience, and can not angle the session in that way.
Please, if anyone knows of any resources in the Chicagoland area, please let me know! I would like to take this class as soon as possible, because of the work aspect, and also because of my growing frustration with the situation.

Thank you,
Amanda

Amanda,

I suggest www.newhorizons.com.

I’ve taken many computer workshops from them and all but one have been excellant. The class size in Minneapolis is limited to 25 but they seldom max out. My Human Resourse Dept says they cost about the same as other places. What I liked was that they offer free phone call support for 60 days if questions come up after class or if you try to do something on your computer at work/home and it just doesn’t seem to work. One can also retake the class, free of charge, as often as you would like within the first six months of the class.

I looked at thier web site and it looks like they have multi- offices in the Chicago area.

Good luck,
Barb Bloom

You should also look into self study cdroms.

These will give u a good intro to the software and u can study it at ur own pace and replay sections however many times u want.

I think it would still be applicable to the workplace - I work in technology and training on software like MS-Excel is pretty similiar unless ur boss has avery specfic task/skill they want u to do.
