I’m curious as to how other schools or districts handle standardized testing for their sped. students, specificlly in terms of who orders the tests? Connecticut has done standardized testing for a long time now, and we have off-level tests that the sped. kids can take if the PPT determines those are appropriate. We are also able to get the tests brailled for students with visual impairments. My question is this (I hope it makes sense!): does your school or district have a test coordinator who checks with the case manager on testing modifications and what specific levels of the standardized tests the PPT has decided that each sped. child should take, and then orders all these types of tests, or are there some schools/districts that require their sped. teachers to order the off-level standardized test from the testing company, or to order having it brailled?
Our testing coordinator realized today, when standardized testing was to begin Monday, that she had not ordered the test in braille for our visually impaired student. Our sped. director was under the impression that case managers are responsible for ordering the brailled version of the standardized tests, until our old test coordinator explained the issue. Thank goodness ~ in ten years I have never once been told I have to do that! Just curious what other districts do.
Re: How does your school/district do this?
Our high school guidance counselor is ultimately responsible for making sure all the accommodations are done, but as a sp. ed. teacher and the 504 Coordinator, I do most of the paperwork, as she has enough to do. I make sure the 504 accommodations are done on a regular basis and document them, and then I send in the standardized testing form that indicates what accommodations are needed.
Re: How does your school/district do this?
In our school district, the guidance counselors meet with our special ed team leader and then orders the testing materials.
I have worked in 4 states and the test coordinator is responsible for ordering all tests. As a teacher, all I do is administer them! And we usually have to provide a form with the test modifications listed.
