Re: ADHD AND SCHOOL TESTING
Hi, I am a teacher, a therapist, and I also have ADHD. Ask your parents to contact the local chapter of the learning disabilities association in your state. You can find the address online. They will send your family a free packet of materials and some names to call of support persons.
You need to have either an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or other admendments in your school file in order to have extra time for tests, etc. Once you have this kind of plan on file, the teachers have to let you have this each time you are tested, no matter how limited their understanding of your condition. If they do not, they can be held individually liable (e.g. your family can sue them directly, as well as the school and the district). These rights are given by Federal law and come before any regulations of your local school district.
Get your parents or guardians involved!! There are support groups for parents of ADHD/LD kids. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND FIGHT FOR THEM!! I learned, and now I have two graduate degrees. And I still can’t spell! Good for you for writing to ask for help. I’m impressed.

Yes you have the right to have more time on any test as long as you give the school Dr’s. documantation ( or how ever it’s spelt) that you have it and they have to give you more time. and if they don’t then contact the D.H.S. and they will help you.
