I am so tired of getting frustarted when trying to study. I plan on going back to College and I am in a constant nightmare. I have been trying to prep myself and find that even pre study is killing me. I have so much trouble concentrating and then I just get so frustarted. I overcame depression and anxiety but don’t want ADHD from stopping me and won’t. I have been pouring over resources but none of them seem to tell me three things:

1. Here is ways to treat ADHD and ways of contacting Doctors who can help.

2. Colleges will help those with learnign Disabilities, if and this is how you contact them.

3. The government provides people with learning disabilities this help.

I have a friend on Addrell and was thinking about trying it myself but wanted to see if there was perhaps a routing builder to help organize your life and simplify it and also an Exercise pattern to do in order to help focus. Or herbs that would help. Hell anything.

Matthew,
For study tips, take a look at replies to Tammy’s message below (“Study Tips?” 4/18).
There are some posts below on different medications and herbal helps, and also posts on how to find a doctor/or someone for testing, see responses to Zinjay’s “help” post (4/5/03).
For LD services, check out the separate forum on POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION. Be sure to look at older messages as well — a lot of good info there.

I’m back at school after several years, and facing many ADHD and LD issues. You can email me if you want — [email protected].

matthew, a great idea for studying is put things on notecards and carry them around all the time. This makes things easier cause you dont have to study it all at once. I also set a timer for myself for 15mins then take a 2 min break. Medication has also helped but ive only been on it for about two weeks. I started taking strattera and its been wonderful. I am doing great in school with help from family, friends, school counselor, daily planner and spiral notebooks……if u want to know more just email

ADHD is a real neurological challenge. Historically the central nervous system stimulants/alerting agents tend to temporarily reduce ADHD symptoms for some people, not all people.

The ADHD meds do not work for everyone. That’s just the real world.

ADHD is considered by some to be a made up diagnosis. Read the DSM criteria and decide for yourself.

When I went back to school I would tape record lectures that I knew would be hard to take notes for. I also used a tape recorder to record my notes to myself. I would play them back and listen especially before a test or quiz. Iwould also take my class notes and organize them into a 1-2 page information sheet I could keep reviewing.
Good luck and contact me if you’d like. I am a special ed teacher, too.
