Programs for CAPD

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone have any recommendations for programs (home versions) to work with auditory processing disorders?
Also, I have been reading about a one on one training program called PACE. Does anyone have any experience with this.
I am a concerned parent willing to do anything to help my child adapt to her special learning style. Thank you.

How old is your child and what are her specific auditory processing problems? What are her academic problems? That will help people give you better answers!

There are different types of CAPD. Has your child been evaluated by an audiologist who specializes in this area? If not, that would be a good first step.

FastForWord is helpful with certain types of CAPD and can be done at home if you become a certified provider. There are many other programs that work directly on auditory processing problems (TLP and Samonas come to mind). Occupational therapy and NeuroNet address many of the sensory integration issues that can result from auditory processing disorders.

PACE is a wonderful program, but is best reserved until after therapies that work directly on reducing sensory deficit. In other words, if you are doing a sequence of therapies, it would be the last therapy before academic remediation.

Not all of the programs I mentioned above have home versions.
