new format

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

this sure is getting complex.

sure do miss the old format and easy ways of old.

smileys might be fun to insert, but I can’t figure out how. doesn’t cut it, does it?

not so sure I like this.

Down on the lower, left side the under “Options” I can see that the smilies are off!

I tried to turn them on but have not been able too. Maybe cause I’m a “guest” as I haven’t gotten my second e-mail yet?

Looking at the members list, it looks like no one has received there second e-mail yet?

It takes a while to get a board up. I can wait.

I have been trying to send some posts (new topic) but they don’t seem to get on the board. Don’t know why.

I liked the very original board better also.

I had already e-mailed LDonline that I do not like that the new boards do not allow seeing “threads” (was told getting to use a new one is hard to accept - I believe this is really not the case). I do not care about the “view” , login et.c. but about the “applicability” and I believe “threads” were one of the greatest options in old BB. It is really hard to follow a discussion when the messages appear sorted “by time”.

I might be the only one, but I would happily trade all the “smiles” for the thread option….

Hi all,

Thank you for using our new boards. There are a lot of testing here, one or two persons can not detect all the problems at once, so feedbacks from you will help us decide which direction to go.

There are certain things that we may not be able to change, such as the ability to start sub-topic threads.

The smily faces are a feature of this application that we don’t thing necessary for our users, so they will be removed soon (the actual script of the boards will need to be modified by our server administrator.) So please ignore them for now.

The old boards have certainly some good features, but that application is quite outdated (the updated version didn’t do much) and it wasn’t designed to deal with the problems that we’re all facing today. So to keep the BBs alive, we decided to switch to this new format.

We will keep our users informed of any new updates.
Regards,

LD OnLine

This more like it! I love the smileys and will vote to keep them. They can be important indicators of attitude and intentions, and help portray the subtle nuances often left out of the written word. Most every community I have been to has them. Will you be able to detect and ban IP addresses? Most sites can do this and use it often to reject posts from people with dishonorable intentions.

Thanks for the changes, I hope you can ban soon. I’ll be back on a regular basis if you do.

It would also be nice to have some way to e-mail the moderators.

In case you haven’t noticed yet, user name “LDOnLine” is the moderator/contact person for these BBs. You may send a private message to LDOnLine for comments or concerns.

Regarding IP banning. Yes the reason why we have gone through such hard time installing this application is because of that ability. Banning IPs now is just a mouse click away, unlike before, it took us 24 hours to do so.

Thank you all for your support.
Cheers!

I don’t mean to be negative, but I DON’T think this new format is going to keep the BB alive. I think it’s killing it.

I know I’ve found it very uninteresting of late and - if you haven’t noticed - a certain user has already “hit” the readingrockets website.

I have really enjoyed the BBs for the past 2-3 years - considered this one the “best”. Unfortunately, now it’s the last place ] go.

I liked the original board best. I also thought banning the person who this is still all albout was a bit like kicking a child with Torett’s Syndrome out of school for swearing in class. But I must have missed something really terrible if LD ONLINE is willing to go as far as changing everything. Or maybe we are just being punished for the complaining. I have always been grateful for LD ONLINE bulletin boards. I hope they come back to life.

Well, the first thing I said to myself when I clicked on my favorite bb was COOL!

We must not be afraid of change y’all!

Moderators,

When we suspect a Ball character is posting, are we notifying you via a posting or would you prefer a PM? I’d be honored to help you clean house.

Hmmm…now to see what PM does!!! Plus, gotta figure out how to make the emoticons work! :)

I think the new board is very nice, by the way, now that I am registered! I like it that it tells me when there are new posts on a topic.

Regarding ball: When a person writes a message on the bb stating that he does that activity for which Monica Lewinsky is famous, well that is really crossing the line. He made the statement in much more graphic words than I using only 3 words and an exclamation point. Was I the only person who caught that one?

I like the new board. I didn’t visit the old board very much bec of the format and because of the numerous drive-by’s. This is better.

I saw it too, Amy, and reported it. The reality is that there are ideological groups out there and people with something to sell out there, who target boards such as this. Parents looking to help their children are a vulnerable lot and these folks know that. They post a bunch of scary stuff that 9 out of 10 parents recognize as hyperbole but they may hook one and that is good enough for them. Pseudonyms, false stories and doctored information are presented, not for the purpose of being helpful, but rather for the purpose of making money or converting others to particular ideology. There are also troubled individuals whose life experiences have been so terrible that they have to be angry at everyone all of the time. They post mean things in the hope that it will make them feel better.

Most of the regulars here have been around the block enough times not to fall prey to this nonsense, but some who are new to the world of LD/ADHD might be misled. The only thing we who are genuinely interested in sharing with and helping each other can do is to post legitimate information about and experience with ADHD treatments (meds or otherwise) in a non-judgmental way.

Well, I think I’ll get used to the new format, although like others, I had gotten comfortable with the old threaded topic lists. But I have to say, I REALLY appreciate all the effort that the board moderators have put into this to keep the stalkers at bay. They have really been working hard to try to find a reasonable solution.

If these boards had been using this format when I stumbled onto them three years ago, I wouldn’t have given a moment’s thought to the format. I was just glad to find a supportive forum with really knowledgeable people. If this is the format that the moderators found that will give that back to us, I will simply say thank you.
