Inclusion and accountability

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I have a seventh grade LD (language arts & reading) son that is being recommended by the administration for an inclusive math. The general education is not a nuturing environment and the resource room teacher has no previous knowledge or training in connected math program.

How can I as a parent insure that this class will continue to keep up with general education classes so he will be ready for eighth grade general math or algebra?

I would love any suggestions.

Hi. As a special ed teacher and a professional tutor for learning challenged students, I would highly recommend private tutoring for your son. I will be starting a Master’s Thesis soon talking about the problem with many special education programs and how most students end up going backwards in their abilities rather than forwards.

I feel that private tutoring with someone who understands learning styles is the best solution. Anyone can learn math but not everyone can be successful in a classroom setting. I always tell my students that they are very special because they are more creative than other students. Good luck.
