Paxil warning

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

This appeared twice; first a British study, and now an FDA warning. The study finds that children and adolescents taking Paxil show increased suicidal thoughts. If your child is using it, you should talk to a doctor who keeps up with recent studies.

No she’s right, Paxil is not without it’s risks. Thanks Victoria. And if your doctor doesn’t keep up with recent studies, get your hands on one and bring it into him. If anyone needs a link to these studies I’m sure Victoria or eye can dig it up for you. Oh, and Ball, Ritalin isn’t an antidepressent like Paxil, its a completely different family of meds. You really are clueless aren’t you? I mean this is basic 101, honey! You are so embarresing, what does your mother tell people?

Sorry for posting as a guest; registering makes me lose my place (and please ask moderators about this!)

I was sort of worried about posting this because I didn’t want to jump into controversies, of which there sure are a lot …

But I gave it serious thought for two days after the British study was reported, and when the FDA recommended no Paxil for under-18’s, I figured that’s respectable enough backup to spread the word.

No, I don’t have the studies; I just picked up the headlines from CNN. But CNN is reasonably responsible and unlikely to misquote an FDA warning. (not impossible of course, just unlikely) If I wanted to find out more about this, I would first look for a website for the FDA — try a search for just FDA, then US gov, etc. I would also consider doing a search under the word Paxil; however such a search would have to be very carefully and skeptically weeded to make sure to get real research and not the local nutcases.

If anyone does this research and gets the info, I’m sure people here would be glad to hear more facts.

Please note also that you should NOT suddenly change or drop medication without medical advice; please get the info, print it, take it with you, and then talk to a real doctor.
