What are the "Bump" responses about?

Could someone please explain what the “Bump” responses mean.

Yes!

First, I’d like to thank friend for starting that here. It was a great idea.

Bump normally simply means “I have nothing to add but think this thread is important enough to move up so that others will read it.” (ie threads with new posts get moved to the top of the page. Threads at the top of the page are more likely to be read than something on the bottom of a back page.)

A secondary usage is when we self moderator. The moderators watch this board Monday-Friday, normal working hours. We have had a problem with inappropriate postings by guest off-hours. I don’t mean differnce of opinion stuff—I mean foul language and personal attacks. Bumping ligitmate threads then becomes a way to push the inapproprate stuff to a back page until a moderator gets the chance to delete it.

Barb, I was not the only one bumping off those insulting posts, Rebel Mom and Mayleng were doing it to. We need to help clean up this board for the people who are sincerely looking for help and there are many out there.
