First week of school

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

What should I do besides assesment for the first week of school. I generally lay down what the rules are and what is expected. We start school on September 4th, which is a Thursday. What can I do that is fun after I perform initial assesments to keep children interested?

Would depend — what age/grade, what are your goals for the year?
(I have a tendency to dive right in and start teaching — but that’s middle and high school. I like to get the structure and expectations down not jsut in “going over the rules” but the “hands-on” part of that. With my guys, my two main concerns were that they trust me that I wouldn’t ask them to do anything they couldn’t do, and that what we *were* doing was going to be “real” learning (as amorphous a concept as that is!).
