help me,pls!

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am a sped teacher here in the Philippines. I work with kids with Autism and M.Retardation. Now, I got hired by one of the public middle schools in Waukegan as a Sped teacher who handles LD. I think I might fly to U.s by early August. I don’t know yet if I’ll be handling regular kids with some LD’s included in the class or I’ll just be an on call resource teacher. What do you practice there in U.S? I am nervous because I am used to teaching kids with special needs on a one-on-one basis and a small group. I don’t know if I can handle the preesure of teaching an entire class with special kids included. Can you give me some ideas of what’s most likely to happen? Will I be just a resource teacher or not? Thanks for your help in advance!!! God bless.

Lots of unknowns here. First, you will need to find out whether you will be teaching in a resource or inclusive setting. This makes a big difference. If you are needing assistance in classroom management or what supplies that you will need please post on the teaching bb’s. The teachers there have loads of experience and are able to get you into the right direction. Hope I have been helpful.
