I have a young adult student who shows a heck of a lot of ADHD type patterns — can’t sit still, trouble all the way through school, violent temper, trouble with authority, irresponsible/impulsive behaviour, poorly developed reading skills, never read through a whole book, and on and on. He has been mostly been treated punitively all his life, which has gone over like a lead balloon. Alternatively by motherly pleading, with little result as well. He has recently pulled his life together quite a bit, and is self-medicating (don’t ask). I’m working with him on responsibility and motivation and self-confidence, can’t even talk about academics yet. I think he would really benefit by knowing more about ADHD and recognizing that it’s not a cause for guilt. However his English skills are extremely limited, beginner level ESL, and we communicate 99% in French. I could easily buy books, but he reacts to them like snakes. He does use the internet however. Does anyone know of international/French sites on ADHD?
Re: ADHD in french
Just curious, Have you guys seen the web sites listed on LD OnLine?
http://www.ldonline.org/finding_help/international/
We have tried to provide electronic translations before, but received bad feedbacks because of the poor translations.
LD OnLine.
Thank you very much for sites; also answered own question
I’ll definitely look into these sites.
I continued my search and found some really good stuff, English originals plus very good French translations, at UQAM (University of Quebec At Montreal). Several articles are by a Doctor Hallowell — some really good things.
Anyone who is interested, type in ADHD Quebec in your search and punch on the uqam site.
