gifted visual spatial learner

Well I don’t know how old your son is, but I worked at a charter school with HS kids and they were teaching them architecture/ architectural concepts. Even if your child is younger or quite a bit younger this kind of thing might be interesting to him. You might look this up on the web and see what you come up with. I worked with an 11 year old high functioning autistic child that could do anything with legos. I think he could have done more advanced work with building and structures.

Your son may benefit from Davis Dyslexia Correction. It works well with visual spatial learners.

You mentioned giftedness — what are teh problems that have you looking at IEPs?

My son is visual spatially gifted. He also has dysgraphia.We use AVKO spelling which uses a multisensory approach. We are doing Algebra this year and he seems to “get” it much easier than doing lower level math. He can get concepts but struggles with rote memorization. The Gifted Development Center in Denver has been of great help to me. Linda Silverman is the owner and has several books about visual spatial learners. You can also get pamphlets from there.Their site is gifted development.com all one word.We use a laptop to do writing assignments and the computer for History curriculum. We also do LOTS of oral stuff. Michael likes to be the teacher and teach me how to do Science, math or whatever. We also use a white board and different colored markers so that he can more easily visualize words numbers or whatever.Send me an Email if you would like and give me more detail about your child and his scores etc. Hope this helps. Most unfortunately, in our neck of the woods, IEP=SP ED= LOW fuctioning, hmmmmmmmm. anyway- a couple of things: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING! (ph logs, letters, etc- it helps to keep folks accountable), and you might want to check out wrightslaw.com and reidmartin.com two websites that speak to sp ed laws and other issues.
