What does the phoneme/grapheme knowledge subtest measure? How might poor performance on this subtest manifest itself in the real world? While I’m at it, info. on the Academic Fluency subtest would be appreciated as well.
Re: Question on W-J III Achievement
the phoneme/grapheme subtest assesses a person’s knowledge of letter sounds. It would indicate whether the person has letter-sound knowledge to decode a given word for comprehension in reading.
Re: Question on W-J III Achievement
Have you looked at http://alpha.fdu.edu/psychology for a complete review and discussion of the WJIII along with scoring templates?
As far as the Academic Fluency cluster goes, it measures an individual’s ability to accurately and quickly perform basic academic skills within a timed situation. When we have low scores in this area, yet higher scores on the corresponding broad area clusters, we know that this is a student who may know the material, but does’t do well in timed situations. In this case we usually recommend, if the results match what the teacher(s) typically see, that the student be given extra time/untimed tests and quizzes.
