Oh, well...it's the journey not the destination.

I had a wonderful time with my 10-year-old LD (among other things) son last night. It seems that, lately, all we ever do is rush from one activity or therapy to the next. Even when we plan something fun it doesn’t turn out fun as the activity is shoehorned between other things and we inevitably end up only half finishing…whatever…before I need to rush him off to the next thing. But not last night!

All the stars aligned right and we ended up playing a board game. I thought it should take about 40 minutes so when we started 60 minutes before bedtime it seems okay. Of course, 20 minutes into the game, I can tell its going to go long. It’s a strategy game where you move little army pieces across the world. On each turn he insists on lining up the pieces just so; discussing out loud all the strategies he’s considered, the pros and cons of each, any why he picked this strategy over that one; and giving me interesting tidbits on each country. Normally I’d end up trying to move the game along but last night (Thank you-God), I had the grace to let the game move at his pace. We both enjoyed it tremendously and I learned so much that I wouldn’t know if we had rushed. Things like what a bullet train looks like and what propels it (discussed as he moved to Japan), what Gallipolis Turtle eat (Madagascar), and that he has always wanted to go to the northwest portion of Canada on vacation, just because. Of course, the game took two hours but he can sleep in today. It was worth it.

Just needed to share with folks who could understand!

Thanks,
Barb

Thanks for your positive responses!

Andy,
You are correct. It is Risk with modified rules.

It’s nice to have a really good day once in a while. :)
