Ideas for extremely slow-paced LD and Title I students

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone have knowledge of programs or strategies that are successful with reading and math students who have extremely slow processing abilities? I teach identified Title I students in grades 1-5, and also tutor a 5th grade LD child with auditory processing disorder and general slow processing, too. I use a multi-sensory approach, my own original songs for teaching math algorithms (subtraction with regrouping, 1-2 digit multiplication & long division), visual and rhyming math fact tricks, manipulatives, visual cues and lots of real-world examples. I give extra time and use no timed activities. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Linda,

Math-U-See is a student paced program. It has been successfully used in many LD classrooms. It is a hands-on manipulative based program that sounds like it would fit into your methodology. You can get a free demo video by calling 888-854-6284.
