:) I am a 3rd. year, 7th grade teacher (English/Social Studies and Spanish). This year I will be teaching an Inclusion Core class and I’m also writing a paper for a class on Inclusion that I am currently taking. I am looking forward to the experience, but would like some tips from Gen. Ed. teachers who have been teaching Inclusion classrooms. I wll be having a Spec. Ed. teacher in the classroom with me and an aid. I am expecially interested in positive feedback concerning the experience and what advantages there are for the Gen. Ed. teacher in an Inclusion classroom. Thanks!
Re: Inclusion and the Gen. Ed. Teacher
I have been an inclusion teacher for a number of years and the best thing is to communicate with the special education teacher what you are going to be doing so they are not lost and can help out her students. Also using centers is a good way to incorporate all who are involved
Well, I’m a special education teacher, but I thought I could help you out. I had all inclusion classes last year and I believe it was a success. A good thing for you to do, seeing that you will have three adults in the classroom, is to set up roles of each person. For example, will you be the main teacher and the special ed. teacher be walking around assisting her students? Also, make sure you talk to the special ed. teacher about what you will be doing and if she would like to change anything. The teachers I work with are all wonderful and our relationship is great because we commmunicate the needs of our students as well as our own needs. The special education teacher will know her students’ needs the best and you will know the curriculum the best. Together you can make a great team. I wish you luck!
