Articulating to my school the difference between Programs

Hello,
Can some one tell me a simple way to explain to my school that my son needs Lindamood-Bell before the wilson system I now they will give me a hard time. also how can I tell they are doing the same proceedure as the Lindamood-Bell? They will say We use other ways that are as effective.

I’m sorry to say that you cannot specify a program. Those programs both fall into the same general category, so you really have no ground to stand on to make them train in and teach Lindamood Bell.

All you can do is make the IEP goals very specific…will increase oral reading grade level from 3.5 to 4.5, for example. The proof of whether it was effective will show in the testing.

I’ve answered Willow before on this. There isn’t any way to force them to even use an effective method! (Well there might be, but I have no idea what that is!) She mentioned they were using Wilson, and I’d say the kid might do all right with that, it would kind of depend on the amount of problems with phonemic awareness. If it is severely impacted you might need the LiPs. I’m not sure how you would know, unless you had some private testing and failure (given a reasonable amount of time— not years or even months and months) with an OG based, like Wilson or Phonographix.

LiPs is VERY intensive. Not every kid really needs it. The kids who do it is wonderful and prolly the only thing that will work.

Makes me wonder Willow, why you think that the Wilson won’t work?

Failure in a typical reading system isn’t enough because we know the vast majority of programs aren’t good at all.

Take a look also at Wilsonreading.com— this *is* a research based method.

I never got any idea why you think your kid needs the LMB. But if you really think this I think you are on your own to either get a tutor or take a workshop yourself.

BTW, please I am not attacking you. But you keep posting over and over and have never really said why you think it would be necessary. You may be quite right. I just wonder where you are getting the idea from. BTW, OG based methods do do some phonemic awareness but they are not going to be having the kids looking in mirrors at their mouths, identifying various types of sounds, etc. etc.
