Meeting everyone needs

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

How can I give students with special needs the attention that they might require, without neglecting the needs of the rest of the class?
If anyone has any tips that they would share, it would be appreciated!!
Thank you!!!

 Try using collaborative lesson plans. Use a lesson plan that will
benefit all the students. By grouping the students to work together. The students without learning disabilities can help the students with disabilities.

You need to be careful not to relie on children without LD to help LD children .They do not understand the way they learn it can cause more frustration and confusion.I have noticed teachers being overwhelmed with the differences .Along with the student becoming lost in the crowd ,its easy to do when the teacher has to much on there menu.Watch for the child that is lost in the group and get them out of there. It is not for every LD child.

Get materials that are multisensory or that can be used for needy students that don’t look “lower” than the others. Be aware that you need to teach using a variety of presentations to reach students with different learning styles. Make sure you say it, write it, repeat it, provide a visual cue, focus the students’ attention and re-focus it if necessary (general instruction, don’t embarrass the one who is zoned out), and STRUCTURE your lessons. Provide how-to-sheets for assignments with charts or check lists. Break assignments down into short, doable steps. Make sure all students understand the directions before you proceed.
