Panel Would Allow Medicaid Buy-In for Some Disabled Children
By Spencer Rich, Congress Daily C National Journal Group Inc. Senate Finance S. 622

WASHINGTON (Sept. 10, 2003) — The Senate Finance Committee approved by voice vote a bipartisan bill (S. 622) Wednesday that would allow families with disabled children to buy into Medicaid for health coverage under certain conditions. This option would be available for children under 18, who are disabled, and whose family income is low, but not low enough to meet current Medicaid income tests for coverage. The bill states that family income cannot exceed 250 percent of the official poverty line, unless the state is willing to pay the entire cost for the care. There were no amendments.
