speed reading

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

For a non-LD but very slow reader (age 10, 5th grade, above average intelligence) — can anyone suggest a speed reading course/program, ideally available on CD for home practice?

I have vivid memories of a speed reading course in 6th grade (this was many years back) and I know it really improved my reading.

thanks for any info.

Read Naturally

I know of no way to improve reading rate on the computer except that some of the Read Naturally involves listening to passages . It takes someone there to count errors and time the child. My kids at school enjoy doing Great Leaps. They try to beat thier own time, which is good.

I have also had great success with Read Naturally. I am using Great Leaps too.

I am trying the PCV pipe phone too where you make a phone type device to listen to themselves as they read. Not sure it will work.

I can’t wait to go to the conference in San Diego because I have signed up for some fluency talks. I hope to hear the latest.

Practice, practice, practice.

You might try books on tapes.
