Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am a new LD teacher and discovered OG in my closet but have no idea how to use it. Can anyone provide me with a quick tutorial? Thanks!

There isn’t such a thing. http://www.webed.com (?) has an online training at around $150, and this is the cheapest thing to do with OG. Of course you could study it like crazy, that is really follow along and try to work it out. You might get some insights that way, but it won’t make you really qualified to teach it. (What I mean is go thru VERY slowly, like you are a very slow student.) There aren’t any short cuts on this. YOu might like Reading Reflex which is $20 and about as easy as it gets. This will help many struggling readers, and requires no training.

Dawn,

des is right. Even the web course is just the 10 hour overview. It is not enough to use the program. A full OG training in my state is two full weeks in the summer. I think it would be wise of you to get training in one of the effective methods like OG, Phono-Graphix, or Lindamood Bell because it is really necessary in order to be able to remediate reading disorders.

Read through the reading articles on this site under LD In Depth and you will read about some of the effective methods.

Another good idea is to join the International Dyslexia Association (IDA www.interdys.org.

If you are interested in Orton Gillingham training, you can look up your state contact person on the IDA site and ask for training information. I have training in several of the programs but I still would liek to take the OG training because it is the most thorough in teaching the English language.
