Parenting a young adult ld

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am writing to those parents with youg high functioning adults with
learning problems whose disability to some degree affects their
social emotinal aspects. I would like to learn from your experience
what and where are your children now, when school time is over,
when your son or daughter does not make it to college, or requires
extensive support while lacking advocacy skills. and yet shows an
exceptional talent in some areas, but requires more structure setting.
Basicaly i am reffering to those parents whose childrens “fall between the cracks”. They are too high functioning to be entitled to servicses such
as medicasid, or medicaid waiver and yet can’t make it on their own.
I would like to know if you are familiar with any good program or living
arrangement setting. I am located in NYC, but open to suggestions
in other areas as well

Hello, Suzette.

You may wish to post this in the “Adults with LD” forum and ask the young adults themself.

She doesn’t post much anymore but there is one young women someplace in NY City who started her own support group. Perhaps she (or others) might be interested in sharing their experiences.
