Resources at Work

Hi: I’ve never been hre before, so I am looking for any help/advice I can get. I am 48 years old and highly motivated. I’ve been with the same company for 8 years and excelled in an entry level position. I can’t go any further unless take required classes to be eligible for more moneey and a better job.

Here is what stops me now and always has in the past. I have a very hard time with reading, memory and comprehension. But if you show me how to do the job a several times and I can ask for help I am fine. Well, you can’t do that when they are asking me to take several series of very hard insurance classes. It took me 4 trys to get my insurance license. All of my life, people thought of me as an under achiever because all through school I was lost. I never learned how to do much more that 5th grade math. I have no idea how I made it through high school and 2 years of Junior College. I take that back, yes I do, I cheated my way through.

I would give anything to go back to school and learn all the basic skills that I threw away because I hated school so much. I was terrified that the teacher would call on me and I wouldn’t know a simple answer. Please help?? :(

Can you get the materials for the courses and imitate the first three tries for that license? Get together with people who *are* taking the course, follow along with them… do everything but take the course? Or, recognize that yup, it’s probably going to take more than one try — but that you’re going to do it?
