I am using Phono-graphix in my classroom primarily for the first 9 weeks or so. From here I plan to use real literature and comprehension strategies along with Visualizing / Verbalizing. My new problem is, I have to document all of this for my IEPS. I have documentation sheets with PG goals. But, I don’t know the best way to document the other areas. What do you special ed. teachers use to document progress for the IEP when you use literature, poetry and books vs. a typical program? I have a ton of forms from Reading Mastery etc…. but now…I must create or find new forms.
I would love some help here.

documentation
Michelle-
I also use Phon-Graphix and literature in my classroom. I document by writing what we did and what level the novel is. I also give voc. and end of book tests and report the results of those. Some students I give an informal reading inventory every 10 weeks to mark progress. I also keep folders with work samples of all my students. We complete progress reports every five weeks. For each IEP goal I state mastered, working on, haven’t taught yet. I also include some notes about what is difficult or strengths. Hope this helps. Michele
Michelle,
I don’t know the answer to this. Truthfully, I feel it is unreasonable to document progress as often as is required. The only way I feel progress is really proven is to use testing, and you just can’t test every month. Honestly, I feel we ought to be giving a good achievement test yearly to document progress. A program like V/V takes months to do unless it is done in a LMB setting 20 hours a week. I would like to show that my years’ work with a child closed the gap between achievement and grade level. I really look forward to the day I can tutor privately to get rid of all this unnecessary paperwork in my life!
I am sure someone must have broken V/V down into objectives which would help us report progress. I’d like to find out rather try to reinvent the wheel.
