Martin Mooney Mysteries for Children

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Has anyone used the Martin Moony mysteries for children? I think they are out of print, but they were stories in logic. Students read a selection and had to re-order the sentences in order for the story to make sense. The stories were not phonetically structured but they were simple. The students loved them. I used them years ago but am eager to find them again— all I have are a few xeroxed copies.
Thanks,
Renee

You can find at least some of them by searching the used book stores online. Go to http://www.google.com and search on “out of print books” to find different search engines to use.

If you go to http://www.abebooks.com, I saw 5 of them there (assuming no one has bought them by the time you read this) at $6.72 each from the same merchant (so you save on shipping). http://www.bookfinders.com had some too. If you periodically check the used book sellers, you should be able to assemble a complete collection eventually. I used “Martin Mooney Mystery” to search, but you could also try searching on Robert Monson, Minute Mysteries, etc.

Could you explain a little more about these books? What grade levels are they good for? Do you have particular favorites? (I might want to invest in a few for my tutoring students.)

Thanks for the tip. I will check this out. The books are written on a 2 - 4th grade level and are great for developing logical thinking. Stories are written out of order and the student has to re-order them. They are interesting for kids to do.

Nancy,
I’m so excited. I was able to find the books at bookfinders.com. I’ve ordered them and should receive them soon.
Thank you!

I received the stories of Martin Mooney. They concern a little boy who lives around the 1880’s and his adventures in his small town. They are fun for kids to read and learn about that time period.
Now I am looking for the workbooks that go along with these stories. If anyone has a suggestion, I’d greatly appreciate heaing it.
Thanks.
