It's been a while---Great Success

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hi everyone,
It has been a while since I was on the board. I don’t like change, so I miss the old format! I hope you are all very well.

Those of you who know me through this board probably remember that my now 11 year old son is sort of, maybe, who knows, well — NLD-ish.

We live abroad and I almost broke up my family to bring him back to the U.S. for school—I was pretty unhappy with the choices here. We usually spend the summer on some sort of therapy or another, but last summer I gave him a break. Anyway, for 5th grade he attended a very friendly, new school which didn’t impress me at all. I felt like we were wasting our time, but was very afraid to move him into the competitive international school atmosphere. In the end, we chose to at least give 6th grade in an international school a try.

It has been great. It is an all boy school, he has loads of friends, he went to the movies on his own with a buddy last week, found his way in this crazy maze of a foriegn country and he just brought home his report card: Reading A-, Written English A-, Spelling A-, Science B+, Relegion B+, Math B, Japanese A-, Handwriting S-. Well, how about that!!! He works so hard, but boy we are happy around here today!

So many times I just wanted to give up. He has gone through a number of therapies (w/IM being the one I thought helped the most), much tutoring and lots of maturing. DON’T GIVE UP!!!

Happy Halloween,
Margo
