I am exhausted

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I feel so overwhelmed. My seventh grade son has a science test on subject matter that I didn’t study until tenth grade. I feel the more I E-mail and ask questions the more I alienate them.

My fourth grade son uses a FM system - the science teacher has decided that it messes up her hair for the microphone. My son is getting a D in her class and just zones.

I just want a break…….

How much longer to Thanksgiving.

Hang in there, Shel. Only eight more years until the younger one graduates!

Seriously though, my special children are also in 7th and 4th. The year is sooooo long. I agree about the 7th grader learning stuff we covered much later. How much longer until I can’t help? I hope we find a good tutor for him….

I was shocked about the science teacher! My goodness, is she afraid to do experments because it might chip a nail too!

We were having trouble with one of our older son’s teacher. She right out and out told me she followed her own unwritten rules/accomidations with spec ed students so she didn’t need to read his IEP. We have this gem on tape. I felt she’d began retailiating for my politely (I swear) asking why she didn’t seem to be following the IEP. So we had a big meeting where the advocate ended up telling her that we would be filing a complaint with the state if her behavior continued. I was surprised because this was news to me. Later the advocate said that her take on the meeting was that the admin was afriad to confront this teacher and so were forcing us to. She said she’d seen that before. That the admin would now use us as the hammer to get the rest of the teachers in line and not to take it personally. THAT’s a little hard to do!

Good luck to you.

Please tell the teacher that the microphone can be used by putting the headpiece around her neck and positioning the mic in front of her mouth. Most teachers do not want to pass around a mic that has been on other people’s heads, and I don’t blame them. I do not like them on my head either. But maybe she hasn’t figured out there IS a way to wear it without putting it in yoru head. If that doesn’t work, then ask them to order a lapel mic. Make it so the teacher is comfortable with it, so she will wear it. Even though the ideal may be the other way, it does no good at all if it sits on the desk!

Thank you for that thought. There is a portable FM system on order with the microphone that you spoke of, he is using a personal system at this point. So, maybe that’s the problem. Thank you.
