My recollection of the current research mirrors what you describe. Children show gains in attention while receiving the treatment, but the gains are not permanent.

In Irvine California there is a place called Drake Institute which does neuro/bio feedback for people who are ADD to improve their attention without medication. I have had a friend who put both of her kids through it. One was about 17 and the other was 24. It helped them for a shortwhile and then after awhile the 24 year old went back to his old inattentive ways….the other kiddo…I am not sure how she is doing now either..
