Hello,
For a paper I’m writing, I’d appreciate hearing from anyone whose child is taking Ritalin and exhibiting signs of Tourette’s syndrome, either temporary or permanent.
You may contact me off list: [email protected].
Also, if you wish to see the finished paper, let me know.
Thank you very much.

Re: Tourette's syndrome
Not sure what you mean — there is no such thing as temporary Tourette’s. There are transient tics, or tics that are not Tourette’s though. Is that what you mean? A Tourette’s diagnosis requires that the child exhibit both vocal and motor tics. Are you interested in hearing about kids who only have one kind of tic? Just trying to get it straight.
Re: Tourette's syndrome
For accuracy’s sake, you should be sure not to lump all tics together under the Tourette’s umbrella. That said, my child had transient tic disorder of childhood, the symptoms of which abated after she began taking a stimulant medication. Four years later, she has no tics at all.
Re: Tourette's syndrome
You might consider looking at the drug info sheets/standard drug books about the ADHD meds as they tend to report known possible-side effects of some of the ADHD meds including tics for some users/cautions for those who have Tourette’s.
Tourette's
It is easy to find information put forward by the drug companies, but I am interested in finding out what is true, not advertisement. Kinda like, if I were going to buy a car, I wouldn’t go by the advertising, I would look in Consumer Reports and ask people I know.

Do a search of a database like medline. You have to register, but it is free. It will give you access to abstracts of all kinds of research and you can follow up by obtaining the full version of any research that you are interested in.
