discipline

I have a student who consistently gets out of his seat. He also has a tendency to leave the classroom whenever he feels like it. I have spoken with this student to find out if there is a reasoning behind his behavior. I have went over classroom rules, participate in a positive reward system, sought help from the parents, and sought help from our school counselor. Nothing seems to work. I am at a loss as to what should be done. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I should do?

This child might have sensory integration issues. These kids can require movement to concentrate.

My son was in a class where movement was very much discouraged. They kept everything quiet and organized which was probably great for some kids. For my son it was a nightmare. He is a really well behaved child but he kept getting in trouble for standing up. It was very stressful for him, he complained of stomachaches and did not want to go to school.

He was moved to a different class where the teacher rarely makes them sit at their desks. The kids work on the floor in groups alot of the time and are free to go to the bathroom when they need to. His teacher thinks he is an incredibly well behaved child. He is happy and loves school. He even wanted to go the other day when he was sick.

Send him on errands. Have him carry heavy books. Integrate more movement into his day and you will probably see less of the disruptive types of moving.
