I’m just curious about this…at what point did you notice it was helping your child? How far through the program?
Re: Question 4 those who've done the LMB Clinic
I can’t exactly speak re: the clinic. But the kid I am doing LiPS with, said that he has changed a lot, become a lot more confident of himself and will try to sound out words now where he didn’t before. The school also has said there is improvement. I have been doing this with him a couple months but it isn’t intensive. He’d have only had the equivalent of three days worth or maybe not that much.
Still there is something to be said for sinking in time. At least we do that in DOG training. You know you do something and let the dog contemplate it awhile. :-) I’m sure that works in people as well, though I haven’t heard it articulated so much. So I believe also you’ll see the greatest gains AFTER the training.

Re: Question 4 those who've done the LMB Clinic
I’ve let my son have a break from reading to me these last two weeks (since he’s at LMB all day). But I’m still curious to “test” his reading. Maybe if I choose some lower level material. I don’t want him to feel nervous (like he’s not able to meet mine, or his, expectations).
BTW, they asked me if my son had done LIPS. Apparently he works like someone who has been though the LIPS program (I’m not sure what that means!). I thought this was kind of interesting since the only thing we’ve used is PG and a few other programs. Because I’ve worked with him so much he went into the program with a lot of skills.
Re: Question 4 those who've done the LMB Clinic
If you read the article by Steve Truch who has a reading clinic in Canada, he had equally good outcomes using PG for 80 hours of tutoring as he did with LiPS. So that’s why they asked that…he had the skills that LiPS would have produced, except you did it with PG.

Re: Question 4 those who've done the LMB Clinic
Laura,
You should feel very proud of yourself and your son that you did with PG and other programs what LIPS with a paid tutor can do. I know it has been a lot of work but think of all the money you saved (just a small comfort as the $ now add up).

Re: Question 4 those who've done the LMB Clinic
I’m glad your son is doing so well but I would point out that he prolly did not need LiPS. It is very intensive. And there is no reason the vast majority of even dyslexic kids need it. My observation is that it is pretty tedious. I’m glad it is there for the small minority that would need it and can’t really learn to read otherwise.

Hi Laura, That’s a good question. I didn’t notice anything immediately because we suspended all other reading while he was in the program, but as soon as he ended and started back with homework the change was obvious.
I also was permitted to sit in one session and it was amazing what he could do as far as visualizing words and spelling them correctly. The changes in his spelling didn’t stick, but to be fair he only did 4 weeks of LMB and noone else was able to continue that approach with him. The improvement in decoding was noticeable to everyone: me, his tutor, his reading teacher at school and most importantly to him!!
I’m really keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
