For those of you with younger children I provide a peek down the road you hope to avoid, but will still travel to some extent. Our son is now 16 and regardless of learning styles, etc. these are important and challenging years. He took his written test for his drivers permit reading it all himself and he passed!! Also, after two and a half years in private school and no strings to the public school we have once again begun the process to receive some services. To establish his current levels of functioning and determine the need for accomodations for college (only a year and a half away) we have requested a complete assessment from our local public school district. I had to jump through a few hoops, but a very thorough looking assessment plan arrived in the mail and we are on our way, cautious but hopeful.
Congratulations
Well Angela,
HUGE Milestone! Congratulations! You’ve/he’s come a long way! Welcome to the next stage of life, panic/worry… unsure of worrying for your baby or the rest of the world he is going to encounter  (I’m mostly kidding). Anyway, glad to hear all is going well and the choice to move on your conscience and do what needed to be done is to be commended.
best regards,
Andy
Angela,
That is Wonderful news about your son!!! Our kiddo’s have come so far since we first met all those years ago.
Getting accomodations in college will be a breeze compared to what he has been through in regular ed. Each college usually has a Students with Disabilities office and they are very helpful. Been there done that myself and I got my accomodations when I needed them and I in the process I got my masters degree!
Congrats!!
